Manchester United star Edinson Cavani charged with misconduct for Instagram post
According to the Evening Standard, Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for a post he made on Instagram.
The Uruguayan ace used the term ‘neg*ito’ to respond to a friend’s wishes on Instagram. It has now got him into hot soup after United’s defence fell upon deaf years.
If found guilty, Cavani faces a minimum three-match ban. This is according to the new guidelines introduced prior to this season.
Although both the player and United have pleaded there was no malicious intent, the FA say the post was a breach of FA Rule E3.2 due to the reference to colour, race and/or ethnic origin.
Cavani has been given until January 4, 2021 to respond to the charges.
United’s response
United have since responded to the FA’s charge aghainst our striker. They have reiterated the lack of malicious intent and also that the player deleted the post once he became aware of its implications.
“The player and the club will now consider the charge and respond to the FA accordingly.”
Both United and Cavani will now take their time to consider the charge before making a response.

The ill-advised post was an anti-climatic end to what was an excellent night for Cavani. He had just come off the bench to score twice and make one assist as United overturned a two-goal deficit to win 3-2.
Unfortunately, it was for this performance that he recieved the congratulatory post and it led to the mess.
How the player chooses to respond to the judgement remains to be seen.
