Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to win the Europa League with Manchester United
According to MEN, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targetting continental glory and has his eyes set on the Europa League.
The Red Devils dropped down from the Champions League after finishing third in their group behind PSG and RB Leipzig. While it is scant consolation, winning the Europa League will help us end what is now a three-year trophy drought.
“We lost in the semi-final last year and that was disappointing. We want to go further and hopefully lift the trophy.”
United will play La Liga leaders Real Sociedad in the round of 32 fixtures. Both the legs will be played over the last two weeks of February 2021.
Unlike last season’s condensed format, the Europa League will consist of two legs this time around. This will see United have to play eight more fixtures before they can make the final of the tournament.
To put it in context, it is two more games than what we would have had to play to reach the final of the Champions League.
With us also well and alive in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup (which is yet to begin), Solskjaer could be looking at a busy schedule in the coming months.
Games aplenty
Solskjaer is aware of United’s schedule and believes the players will have to take it one game at a time.
“It’s a busy schedule, as you said, and around that time we’ve got big games in the league as well. We’ll have to taken one game at a time.”
Going deep in all competitions will take a toll on players but it is a price they must be willing to pay for glory. United made it to three semifinals last season and will hope to go one better this time around.

United’s last major trophy was the 2017 Europa League under Jose Mourinho. Now into his third season at the club, Solskjaer needs to show that we are still in contention to win the biggest trophies in the sport.
There is still a long way to go before the honours are handed out, but attitude wise, we appear to be on the right track.
