Bruno Fernandes urges Manchester United to be more ruthless
Speaking to MUTV (h/t MEN), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has urged his teammates to be more ruthless.
The Portuguese international was once again the hero against West Bromwich Albion yesterday. He stepped up to score the penalty that ensured we won our first home game in the Premier League this season.
It wasn’t easy as Fernandes did get two lucky breaks. First, his foul saw referee David Coote award West Brom a penalty. However, he overturned that decision after a review.
Fernandes for his part saw his initial spot-kick saved. Thankfully, Baggies keeper and former Red Devil Sam Johnstone had come off his line early and the kick had to be taken again.
The 26-year-old is not one to miss second chances and promptly hit the ball home to earn us a much-needed three points. However, the Portuguese international felt that his team can do much better after the win. (h/t MEN)
“The performance was good but we can do better.”
It was not as if United did not have chances from open play. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford missed gilt-edged opportunities while Johnstone’s performance in goal also saw him make some spectacular saves.
A pass too far!
Fernandes believes United must be more clinical in the final third. The propensity to make another miss should be replaced by a decisive edge to put the ball into the net. (h/t MEN)
“We need to do much better with the shooting, I think everyone agrees with this.”
Not taking our chances has seen the club huff and puff their way to a victory. Scoring more goals would give us a measure of comfort in seeing out the game.
Fernandes admitted that things would have been easier had we scored in the first half. United will need to pick up their performances and do much better in the coming weeks. (h/t MEN)
“We had chances and everyone agrees we can have better performances than this.”

The goal yesterday was Fernandes’ 12th such strike from the penalty spot. It was a landmark goal that took him above Denis Irwin in penalties converted for United. (h/t MEN)
It is an incredible feat considering Fernandes has been at the club for less than a year now.
