Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Manchester United hero Marcus Rashford
According to The Guardian, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
An excellent player in his own right has emerged a hero off the field as well. His efforts to ensure that underprivileged kids do not go hungry have found much support from far and wide.
Earlier this week, the government voted against a Labour motion to extend the scheme providing free school meal plans. Rashford has since pledged to continue the fight, and has found backing from many celebrities and politicians.
The latest person to throw his hat behind the United star is Klopp. The Liverpool boss joked about it being tricky to praise a player who represents their arch-rivals.
However, humanity trumps in the end and Klopp has gone ahead and spoken highly of Rashford. He has commended the 22-year-old for showing the type of leadership one should have seen from the government.
“It’s just nice to show in a time when obviously a lot of people who are really in charge of something and don’t show any sign of proper leadership, that a boy grown up in difficult circumstances and blessed with sensational talent, obviously, never forgot his roots and where he is coming from, that he has to do it.”
Having grown in difficult circumstances himself, Rashford is well aware of the difficulties faced by those unable to provide their children with food.
Despite opposition from the government, it is heartening to see him go about attempting to make a difference. Klopp too touched on the topic and admitted that some things are just more important than football.
“I am really happy that Liverpool can show this solidarity in these moments. Now he is a role model for that and it is truly great.”
It is not every day that a United star gets praised by a Liverpool manager, let alone one as highly regarded as Klopp. In this case, we feel Rashford has earned it.

United and Liverpool will continue to be rivals for as long as football exists. One can be assured that on the pitch, no quarter will be given.
However, somethings transcend football loyalties and mean a lot more to society as a whole. It is good to see both of the country’s storied clubs land on the same page regarding that.
