Manchester United star Marcus Rashford named in Football Black List after child poverty campaign
According to The Independent, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been named in the Football Black List for 2020.
The initiative celebrates the most influential black figures in the British game. It was founded by Rodney Hinds and Leon Mann in 2008. Its members are selected by an expert panel from the black community and the football industry.
Rashford has been included on the account of his campaign to address child food poverty in the United Kingdom.
Speaking on the United star’s inclusion, Hinds commented on the positive role the young striker has had on society.
“After a year of challenges, it is great to be provided with inspiration.”
It is a fair reflection of the positive impact Rashford has had. He has not given up on his dreams for a better tomorrow and fearlessly even took on the government to bring about a positive change.
Other players joining Rashford include Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings and Watford’s Troy Deeney for challenging racial injustice, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha for his efforts to support nurses during the coronavirus pandemic and goalkeeper Chloe Morgan for raising awareness of black inclusion and LGBT+ representation in the women’s game.
A recent success was his campaign to get the Government to provide free school meals to underprivileged children over the holidays amidst the coronavirus crisis. (h/t Daily Mail)
Eventually, they caved in and agreed to do so. Prime Minister Boris Johnson personally called Rashford to inform him of the news.
