“Lack of leadership” – Some Man United fans take sides as star duo squabble over Sevilla winner

Twitter reacts as Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof spar in Manchester United loss to Sevilla

It was a night to forget for Manchester United as they crashed out of the semifinals of the Europa League to Sevilla.

The Red Devils took the lead through another Bruno Fernandes penalty in the first half. Sevilla equalized through Suso, with both teams going into the break on level terms.

United came out all guns firing after the break. However, inspired goalkeeping and a spate of last-ditch blocks ensured Sevilla kept the scores level.

A defining moment of the match saw two United stars square off against each other. The incident occurred in the 78th minute after Luuk De Jong put Sevilla ahead.

Fernandes appeared unsatisfied by Victor Lindelof’s defending and openly pointed it out to the Swede. The United defender did not take it well and lashed back at the Portuguese.

United fans were split on which side to take in the tussle. Fernandes is right to call out poor performances or mediocrity. However, it is possible he was lashing out against the wrong player.

It can be argued that Brandon Williams should have done better to prevent the cross while Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the one who lost sign of De Jong, who ghosted in on the far post.

The United backline was far from perfect. Blaming it all on Lindelof looks to be a case of making him a fall guy rather than address the uniform lack of ability. We take a look at how some fans reacted to the incident.
