Manchester United fans left frustrated by Brandon Williams
It was yet another bad night for Brandon Williams as Manchester United crashed out of the Europa League.
Facing off against an excellent Sevilla side, Williams was out of his depth as a left-back. It can be argued that he played a role in both the goals that United conceded on the night.
The Red Devils took the lead through an early Bruno Fernandes penalty. Sevilla equalized after Suso bundled in Sergio Reguilon’s cross.
Williams failed to keep an eye on the Spaniard who found himself with both space and time to score past David de Gea.
It was more of the same in the second half as the 19-year-old kept getting caught out over and over again. With time running out, a cross from the United left flank was converted by Luuk De Jong in what turned out to be the winner on the night.
It is debatable if Williams should have done better to prevent a cross from coming in. In the end, it proved to be a killer blow to United’s Europa League hopes.
Stepping in for the injured Luke Shaw, Williams has found the going tough. The performances of late have been disappointing, especially so given his potential.
A young Turk
Just 19, his inexperience was on show yesterday night. Primarily a right-back, playing on the other flank against top-class opposition would not have made his job easier either.
Williams is a promising player with a good ceiling. Right now, he lacks experience and nous. Laying the criticism on a young player is unfair as he continues to make a name for himself.
But for now, the defeat will serve as a learning experience for Williams. There is still so much to come from the youngster but for now, he will have to learn from his mistakes and get better.
Williams came under a lot of criticism from the United fans. We take a look at what some of them said.
Twitter reacts as Brandon Williams endures another night to forget
Look at Alphonso Davies for Bayern the other night and then tell me that it’s acceptable to have Brandon Williams starting a European semi-final tie for your club.

Brandon Williams earns more than Trent Alexander Arnold and £5K per week less than Andy Robertson. Let that sink in

Morning, just a reminder that Brandon Williams has a long way to go before he should even be a squad player. We need a good LB more than a RW and I’m not wrong one bit.

Brandon Williams should not be a professional football player

I really don’t know how Brandon Williams gets games for United, he’s so bad😭

I like Brandon Williams but it’s imperative we go and sign a left-footed left-back. Either to oust Shaw or compete with him.

Too many poor individual performances. If we didn’t think we needed a LB we actually do.

Brandon Williams left us exposed. He’s not a LB. Not even close
I like Brandon Williams, I think he’s going to be a top player. He’s gone down 4 times tonight crying and screaming, it’s embarrassing.
