“Well done”, “Disappointing” – Some fans livid as meek Man United end the season with a whimper

Manchester United fans livid as club bow out of the Europa League

Sailors are a superstitious sort and believed that bad things happen in threes. That certainly proved to be the case for Manchester United yesterday.

The Red Devils took the lead early on as they looked to put an end to their semifinal misery this season. United had also qualified for the Carabao Cup and FA Cup semifinals, only to make it no further.

Unfortunately, it was more of the same last night as Sevilla fought back to secure their ticket to the final in Cologne.

United did at times look completely in control. In fact, the players came out swinging after the break and it looked to be a matter of time before we scored again.

An inspired goalkeeper and an indomitable defence kept us at bay before Luuk De Jong popped up to score the winner in the 78th minute.

Problems aplenty!

As if the altercation between Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof was not enough, we failed to show any semblance of fight after going behind. It has become an all too familiar trend and is inexcusable, especially in a European Cup semifinal.

Responsibility will also have to be shared by the manager, who failed to change the tactics or make substitutions until it was too late. It is perhaps ironic that a team led by the hero of 1999 failed to fight until the last second.

United seem to be a million miles away from competing against the best teams. Serious investment and an improvement in tactics will have to be implemented to give us a fighting chance next season.

The Red Devils faithful were extremely unhappy with the level of performance on show. A number of them took to Twitter to vent their frustrations on the result.
