Bruno Fernandes opens up on spat with Victor Lindelof
According to MEN, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has opened up on the spat he had with Victor Lindelof in the Europa League loss to Sevilla.
The incident came to the fore in the 78th minute after Luuk De Jong had put the Spaniards ahead.
Fernandes pointing out the poor defending did not sit well with Lindelof, who gave it right back to the Portuguese superstar. Ultimately, the incident became one of the most recognizable moments of the night.
Speaking after the game, Fernandes stressed on the importance of taking collective responsibility for what goes on the pitch.
“I think when we take a goal it is the fault from everyone, starting in the front.”
The midfielder refused to make a meal of the incident and believes it was nothing out of the ordinary. Fernandes also stressed that it was just an example of the teammates looking out for each other.
“What happened between us is nothing. It’s normal. It’s football. It happens. It’s looking out for each other.”
The loss brings to an end a promising season that could have been so much more. United made it to the semifinals of all three cup competitions but could go no further.
Although Champions League football is back on the table, the lack of a trophy is telling. In fact, this is the club’s third straight season sans silverware. This is the first time United have had to experience it in the last 31 years.
It is something Fernandes is keen on setting right. He admitted that he needs to do more and has stressed on the importance of winning trophies.
“It is not enough, I need to do much more.”
