Donny van de Beek happy to stay at Ajax amid Manchester United interest
Speaking to Fox Sports (h/t Daily Star), Ajax midfield sensation Donny van de Beek has claimed that he would be happy to stay at the club for another year, amidst interest from Manchester United.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the most coveted young midfielders across Europe. Ajax director and former Manchester United star Edwin van der Sar recently admitted that the player could leave this summer, amid interest from the likes of United and Real Madrid. (h/t Daily Star)
However, the current situation in the transfer market due to the coronavirus pandemic has cast doubts over an exit for the Netherlands international.
Van de Beek acknowledged that he might have to wait for another year to secure a move away from Ajax. At the same time, he has insisted that he would be happy and proud to continue representing the Dutch giants. (h/t Daily Star)
“It is very messy, in any case a very messy period in terms of transfers. I am still a player of Ajax and I am still proud to be there. If I also play at Ajax next season, I still have a lot of fun. You won’t hear me complaining.”
Given how the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba appeared to be fatigued towards the end of the Premier League campaign, it would bode well for the club to have more quality players who can cover for them and challenge for the starting spot.

With the likes of Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira nowhere near the same level, adding someone of Van de Beek’s qualities would be a great move by the club.
The 23-year-old enjoyed another impressive season in 2019/20. He produced a return of 10 goals and 11 assists from 37 matches in what was a curtailed campaign in the Netherlands.
Considering the prevalent conditions in the transfer market, it remains to be seen if the club does make a move for Van de Beek this summer or wait for a year before launching an attempt.
