Manchester United risk burnout ahead of 2020-21 campaign
As reported by the Daily Star, Manchester United stars face a risk of burnout heading into the opening weekend of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
With the current campaign finally coming to a close this weekend, the new domestic season is scheduled to start on 12th September. (h/t Daily Star)
United are set to continue their Europa League journey when the competition resumes next month. Making it to the final on August 21 will leave us with just 22 days to get in shape for the opening matchday of the 2020-21 campaign.
Our arch-rivals City face a similar dilemma provided they reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League on 23rd August.
This could just be the beginning with some United stars looking at a potentially hectic 14 months. With the European Championships rescheduled to next summer, a number of our key players will be fatigued by the time their commitments come to an end.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already facing a similar issue given our tight schedule. United stars have looked off the pace in our last two games with a noticeable dropoff in pace.
According to the report, it is possible that those teams still involved in Europe could be given a delayed start. This will also include Wolverhampton Wanderers who are alive in the Europa League.
Doing so would only be fair given the strain on the players. After all, teams should not be punished for their success.
City and United intend to petition the Premier League to give them an extra week at least to prepare for the new season. (h/t Daily Star)
