Man United face La Liga threat in the chase for 22-year-old South American ace

Manchester United keeping tabs on Pervis Estupinan

According to Spanish publication La Razon (h/t Metro), Manchester United will go up against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Pervis Estupinan.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Osasuna from Premier League side Watford. In spite of being at the club for four years, he is yet to make a single appearance for the Hornets.

The Ecuadorian has experienced better luck in Spain, where he has been on loan at four clubs in the last four seasons. He has made 30 appearances for Osasuna, while scoring one goal and five assists this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Osasuna, however, could throw a wrench in the works. They have the option to sign the defender permanently for £8.8million.

Given the current financial situation, the Spaniards can also make a quick buck. They could sign him for the aforementioned fee before flipping him to another club for a bigger fee.

Former United skipper Antonio Valencia has spoken of Estupinan fitting in at United, much to the youngster’s delight. (h/t Metro)

United have sent scouts to watch the player this season. The left-back position is not a priority and the club could choose not to make a move. (h/t Metro)

The Red Devils are not immune to the financial uncertainty plaguing the sport. With Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw already at the club, we’d be better off spending the money elsewhere.

Priority targets such as Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish will get preference over Estupinan. The left-back has made a solitary appearance for the Ecuadorian senior team.
