Jadon Sancho wants Champions League football at Old Trafford

According to the Athletic (h/t Express), Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho will only move to Manchester United if he is guaranteed Champions League football.

The Red Devils currently trail 4th-placed Chelsea by three points. We also have one foot in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals, opening another avenue through which we can make it to Europe’s top competition.

The flying winger has endured an excellent season and has scored an impressive 17 goals and 19 assists in just 35 appearances this season. With just two years left on his Dortmund contract, he is keen to return to Manchester.

One of Europe’s top young talents, Sancho has also drawn interest from Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to the report, United can leap to the head of the queue if we successfully qualify for the Champions League. In many ways, the race between us and Chelsea to fourth place could turn out to be a shootout for the player.

Sancho grew up as a Chelsea supporter and was born and raised in London. If the Blues do pip us to fourth place, it has been suggested that they will beat us to the player’s signature as well.

Wherever he ends up, Dortmund will make a massive profit on a player they paid £8million just three years ago.

Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke recently revealed he would be open to selling Sancho. A deal for the player is expected to be in the region of £100million. (h/t Express)

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had commented that United intend to take advantage of the transfer market. This combined with the fact that Frank Lampard expects the coronavirus pandemic to affect the club’s ability to spend could work out well for us indeed.
