Bruno Fernandes expresses faith in teammate Paul Pogba

January signing Bruno Fernandes has hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese playmaker has scored three goals and four assists in nine appearances so far. He won the Premier League Player of the Month in his first month at the club and is yet to experience defeat in United colours.

In many ways, that was what was expected of Paul Pogba when he made his much-publicized return to Old Trafford.

In the Frenchman’s defense, he enjoyed a successful first season back as he led United to two trophies including the Europa League. Things have failed to hit the same heights since, with the current season being extremely poor.

According to the club’s official site, Fernandes has backed his under-fire teammate to come good. The 26-year-old is keen to play alongside Pogba in United’s midfield when football returns.

Fernandes is aware of the French World Cup Winner’s ability. He has backed Pogba to come good once he returns to fitness.

“Paul is a top player and Manchester United pay a lot for him, and expectations are a lot for him.”

He also talked about the fickle nature of football fans. A player can enjoy a series of good games, but all it takes is one bad game for him to take criticism.

Pogba is United’s record signing. The pressures of performing, especially at a club like United, are high, and it is not necessary that Pogba can do it every week.

He also claimed that the high expectations placed on the player are a mark of acceptance of his abilities.

“The team, we have a lot of confidence in Paul.”

Fernandes was lauded by Luke Shaw for the positive impact he has brought to the United dressing room. It is apparent from the interview that Fernandes has the nous to lift up his teammates and encourage others to do well.
