After a stellar performance against Liverpool this Manchester United star showed why he should be starting regularly
Manchester United’s Raphael Varane showed out against Liverpool. Now, it is yet to be seen whether the exit-linked star will be retained or let go next month when the 2024 January transfer window opens.
A magnificent performance at Anfield is something that should help Varane be a regular starter at Old Trafford.
Although the game ended in a 0-0 draw, Erik ten Hag will be happy that it didn’t end in defeat for the Manchester side. Liverpool played a dominant game and looked like the side in control.
However, Manchester United’s often weak defence stood tall and forced the opposition into difficult positions over and over again.
The defence that was obliterated 7-0 last season at Anfield has now redeemed themselves after keeping a clean sheet in their last showdown. Luke Shaw was consistent as always.
Diogo Dalot was good but ended up being sent off in stoppage time during the second half of action. Raphael Varane on the other hand was absolutely phenomenal for the team.
In 90 minutes of action, the Frenchman made 15 clearances, won all of his duels and even added 3 interceptions to his defensive tallies (fot.mob). Fans are now beginning to question whether offloading Varane is a good decision or not.
It does not come as news that Manchester United have opened the door for Raphael Varane, Casemiro, and Jadon Sancho to leave next month. However, after Varane’s dominant performance last night, he has shown why he deserves a chance at Manchester United.
