Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag demanded his team to be more clinical after a narrow victory against Luton Town.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag challenged his players to be more clinical after a 1-0 victory against Luton Town. United earned three important points at Old Trafford in a closely contested Premier League game with Victor Lindelof’s goal.
The Red Devils are three points away from the top four. However, the arch-rivals from Merseyside are yet to play their game this week.
United have won four out of their last five Premier League games despite struggling with consistency and form this season. The Red Devils have lost nine out of 18 games in all competitions this season, showing vulnerability in all departments.
Ten Hag told BBC Match of the Day (h/t BBC) that his team needed to be clinical after the game. He said:
“It is a good day. We needed the win and we got it but we could make life more easy by scoring early on and getting a second. We created the chances but we didn’t score apart from one.”
The Red Devils had many chances to finish the game, but they failed to capitalise on it. Rasmus Hojlund had an early chance in the 10th minute when Marcus Rashford’s cross deflected straight at the Danish forward. Thomas Kaminski made an impressive reactionary save from the 20-year-old’s attempt from just five yards.
Alejandro Garnacho failed to score in a one-on-one opportunity against the Luton keeper after an impeccable delivery from Hojlund. Later in the game, United’s Antony provided Rashford with an open one-on-one chance which the Englishman failed to capitalise on.

The Red Devils dominated the possession and created chances but, in the end, both teams had equal shots on target. United needed a win after their crumbling performance in the Champions League during the midweek. The Red Devils are under the threat of elimination from the European competition before reaching the knockout stages.
Ten Hag made a valid point about the need to be more clinical and professional in front of goals. United’s forward line has only scored one goal in the Premier League campaign so far, which is not good enough.
