Manchester United trio set to make their return against Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League

Manchester United have endured stunning back-to-back defeats in their first two UEFA Champions League games this season and go up against Copenhagen knowing full well that nothing less than a win will do on the night.

As things stand, the Red Devils are dead last in Group A. Copenhagen are also winless and are just one point better off than us in the third spot. With Bayern Munich and Galatasaray getting the better of us on the first two matchdays, they hold the aces at the moment when it comes to securing qualification for the knockouts.

While we saw some semblance of gith in both of our games so far, Erik ten Hag’s men have lacked both the cutting edge and the composure to see a game through. Moments of madness have proven costly and it is imperative that we get our act together.

Ten Hag has had to deal with injuries to several stars, especially in the defence. However, according to Manchester Evening News, he is likely to welcome back three players into the fold for the clash on Tuesday.

First up is Jonny Evans, who continues to surprise with assured displays at the back. The veteran limped off against Sheffield United at the weekend but the knock is not considered to be serious. While it is far from certain if he will start the game, his being available gives Ten Hag options.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Sergio Reguilon has looked whenever he was handed an opportunity this season. He too is expected to return for the game, giving Ten Hag a natural left-back who can do a job in the role. However, he has missed our last five games across all competitions and hence match fitness is a major concern.

Another player who is expected to return midweek is youngster Kobbie Mainoo. The youngster has looked promising in the last few months but an ankle injury condemned him to the sidelines. While he is expected to return, it remains unlikely that he will be handed minutes against Copenhagen.

More Manchester United News

Despite this potential injury boost, Manchester United still have plenty of players out. Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo are all unavailable. Raphael Varane could also return to the starting XI on the night following his recent struggles. The Frenchman was on the bench against Sheffield United at the weekend.
