Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount believes he has enjoyed a good start to the season
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount believes that his start to the season has been good despite the club’s bleak performances so far. The midfielder joined United during the summer transfer window from Chelsea in a £60 million deal.
Injuries and a lack of consistency have plagued Mount’s start to life at Old Trafford. However, as the new holder of the legendary number seven jersey, he is fully aware of expectations. He is keen to thrive under pressure and is honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of sporting the number.
Mount said:
“Of course I know the pressure that comes with it [No. 7 shirt],”
“I have been a fan of the likes of Beckham growing up as a kid so I know what he did at this club.
“For sure, there is pressure that comes with the shirt but that is something that I like to have.
“I want to perform in it and it is a massive, massive club and an iconic number so it really means a lot to me.”
Nevertheless, the England star has failed to enjoy an outstanding beginning of the season. He has only played in four Premier League matches while trying to recover his form for the Red Devils.
Although he did provide one assist in the Carabao Cup, a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, he has failed to score or assist in the league. Mount nevertheless maintained that he is off to a strong start at Old Trafford.
When Mount joined United this summer, he was given the recognisable No. 7 shirt. Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo are the giants who made the Red Devils great and he is continuing the greatness.
Notwithstanding, some have caved under the pressure; big names such as Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria, and Alexis Sanchez have all failed. While it is still early days, Mount certainly has a long way to go to meet expectations.
This season, United has already lost six of their 11 games in all competitions. Mount was unable to participate in five of those games thanks to injury and had difficulty in the ones he did play.
The 24-year-old made 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions. As opposed to his Chelsea days, when Mount played a more offensive role, Ten Hag has utilised Mount in a far deeper role.
