Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a high opinion of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag but results remain king
According to Sky Sports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe thinks that Erik ten Hag can be a role model in helping Manchester United overcome their recent struggles and holds a high opinion of the Dutchman.
While he admits that the Red Devils’ recent form needs work, there is a realisation that the club have thrown their weight behind Ten Hag. But results are king and in the end, the Dutchman’s destiny will be decided by the results on the field.
“Ten Hag is a smart man. Like every manager, he knows it doesn’t actually matter who is in charge, as manager your future is bound to results. United have lost six of their last 11 in all competitions. That is not good enough. That is unacceptable and cannot continue.”
“While the club are dedicated to their long-term plan with Ten Hag, if defeats remain the norm, it’s unthinkable there won’t be overwhelming pressure for a change in the dugout.”
Ratcliffe wants to acquire a minority position at United, provided that he maintains control over the team’s football department. With the jobs of Chief Executive Richard Arnold and Football Director John Murtough in jeopardy, that might mean a significant upheaval at United.
After a wild start to the season, United are now 10th in the Premier League. On Saturday night, they take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in an attempt to build on their dramatic victory over Brentford just before the international break.
Ten Hag is still dealing with the loss of several important players due to injury, but he may be able to welcome back defenders Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon. However, midfielder Casemiro is sidelined with an ankle injury.
Fans are eager to know what Ratcliffe’s possible involvement would entail for the team. While United has backed Ten Hag in his transfer requests, other club members are dissatisfied with the way their company is operated. While money has been spent, it is debatable if there is a plan involved for the long term.
Ratcliffe, who owns OGC Nice, is thought to have a good relationship with Ten Hag in the past. The two also happened to run into each other in March at United’s Carrington training facility when the British billionaire was given a tour of the team’s facilities.
