Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag makes transfer U-turn over Scott McTominay

Manchester United have changed their transfer stance over Scott McTominay as manager Erik ten Hag considers him important. The midfielder is ready to take on a crucial role within the squad as the season campaign advances.

The Scotland international is currently serving his national team over the October international break. In the EURO 2024 qualification round, Spain beat Scotland 2-0, and the officials controversially disallowed a wonder goal scored by McTominay.

The Scottish team are still holding the top position in Group A with 15 points. However, Spain are at 12 points with a game in hand and a much higher goal difference,

The 26-year-old has been impressive for Scotland in the EURO 2024 qualification matches with six goals and one assist.

The Scotsman has only featured in six games for the Red Devils this season in all competitions. McTominay has started only two games for United while the rest of his appearances were from the bench.

The Scotland international displayed a heroic cameo against Brentford right before the international break. At Old Trafford, the Red Devils were trailing 0-1 when they brought McTominay on as a substitute in the 87th minute. The 26-year-old scored two extra-time goals to turn the game around and give Ten Hag a much-needed victory.

Fichajes reported that United were looking to sell the Scot during the January transfer window in order to raise funds. It seems that McTominay’s incredible performances in a limited opportunity have won Ten Hag and the United staff over.

Mirror reported that Ten Hag believes McTominay is crucial for his squad and he will not be for sale in the upcoming transfer window.

The Red Devils need players who are putting in important performances in a season that has been surprisingly abyssal for them. United are currently 10th in the Premier League table and have lost both of their Champions League Group A fixtures.

McTominay’s grit, determination, passion, and composure in high-pressure scenarios are crucial for the Ten Hag’s squad. The 26-year-old has consistently refrained from complaining, even when rumours swirled about his future and he found himself benched during the team’s struggles. Hopefully, he is turning his career in red around.
