Inter Milan might be interested to re-sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana in the future

According to Manchester Evening News, Giuseppe Marotta, the chief executive of Inter Milan, has refused to rule out the possibility that Inter Milan would later re-sign goalkeeper Andre Onana from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper joined United from Italian club Inter Milan during the last transfer market and replaced David de Gea. He signed a five-year deal worth £47.2million.

The same summer when Erik ten Hag switched to Old Trafford, Onana left Ajax. Onana joined Inter on a free transfer, and in his first and only season there, he helped the San Siro club win two titles and advance to the Champions League final.

Marotta said:

“I can’t predict the future, but in football anything can happen. For sure, it was a great chapter for Onana and for us. It was also a successful deal to sign him for free and sell for that money.”

For Inter, Onana made a total of 41 appearances, recording 19 clean sheets in the process. His achievements last season were crucial to Inter’s triumph because of his enormous popularity and great abilities.

On the other hand, Onana erred by enabling Mathias Jensen of Brentford to score against United last weekend. With just two clean sheets and 19 goals allowed in eight Premier League games for United, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has struggled to impress.

The possibility of Erik ten Hag reconciling with a player he had coached for a long time at Ajax and with whom he shared wonderful memories increased the expectations of United supporters. They anticipated that the Cameroon international would arrive and fit in seamlessly and so did we.

Manchester United are currently experiencing a harsh lesson in how reality can hit quite differently. Onana has become a pale imitation of his once-dominant self and has already committed so many high-profile mistakes that have resulted in goals being conceded by United.

Now, it’s unclear whether Inter Milan will ever make a bid for their former custodian. However, we continue to think that Onana can learn from his errors and contribute significantly more to United’s defence.
