Fenerbahçe made a late attempt to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer
Before the Turkish transfer window closed on Friday, September 15th, Turkish club Fenerbahçe attempted to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to Takvim, via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Guardian previously reported that United were ready to sell the Scottish midfielder if any club would meet their £40m price tag.
West Ham United expressed interest in the 26-year-old while searching for a suitable replacement for Declan Rice.

The London club decided to move on from McTominay and opted to replace Rice with the signing of Edson Alvarez. Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that McTominay rejected Fulham on transfer deadline day.
United’s desire to engage in the transfer stemmed from their need to comply with the financial fair play (FFP) rules, allowing them to make additional summer signings.
The Scottish international has showcased incredible form for his country during the Euro 24 qualification group stage, tallying six goals in five appearances.
McTominay featured for the Red Devils in their home game against Brighton & Hove Albion, resulting in a 1-3 loss at Old Trafford. The midfielder’s subpar performance led to his substitution in the 85th minute.
United boss Erik ten Hag provided an injury update on his new midfield signings, Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount, ahead of the Brighton game. Both players are nearing full recovery.
McTominay’s lacklustre performance against Brighton didn’t work in his favor, especially with Mount and Amrabat ahead in the pecking order. Once the two new signings return to full fitness, we expect them to secure a regular role within United’s first team.
As we approach the season’s congested fixture period, it remains uncertain how much playing time McTominay will receive. Managers typically implement a rotation policy during this period to maintain the squad’s optimum fitness level.
