Mason Mount chose Manchester United over Liverpool

Mason Mount‘s first preference was to join Manchester United from Chelsea this summer. However, Liverpool were in a race to lure him to Anfield.

But the £60million fee and £250,000 per week wages that Chelsea offered, helped them sign the 24-year-old. Instead, Liverpool valued Mount as only a £40m player. At Chelsea, he got only £75,000 a week despite being one of the most influential players at the club.

The club’s first off-season addition is appreciated by Erik ten Hag, the Dutch manager who is aiming to bolster his team in preparation for the club’s return to the Champions League. Chelsea were also under pressure to sell a lot of players to give their team a whole new look.

As money received for academy products goes directly into the accounts as pure profit, selling Mount was an easy solution to resolve any FFP difficulties, but losing the 24-year-old put Chelsea at risk of offending supporters, which they initially did.

Mason Mount can play a pivotal role in United’s midfield-

United made full use of this situation and added him to the team’s midfield. Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Eriksen are two astonishing players, and adding Mount to this team is a blessing in disguise.

Mount scored 33 goals and made 37 assists for Chelsea in 195 appearances. However, Mount got injured against Tottenham Hotspur in their 2-0 league loss but he’s now training with the squad for the upcoming vital fixtures, especially the Champions League group-stage fixture against Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old signed a five-year contract with an additional 12-month option after making his professional debut in a 1-0 season-opening victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mount has so far been positioned beside Casemiro, but with Sofyan Amrabat on the scene, he will likely be given permission to take up a more advanced position.

More Manchester United News-

His natural position is as a No.10, but he can also play somewhat deeper, on either wing or in Christian Eriksen’s position. Now, it is with only time, we can say how influential he can be for the club. Some important fixtures lay ahead and his contribution shall be immense to help the club progress further.
