Manchester United midfield Mason Mount sets a return date
The Athletic (Subscription Required) reports that Manchester United’s new midfield signing Mason Mount is targeting a return from injury in United’s Champions League group stage opening match against Bayern Munich.
United signed Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55m on 5th July 2023. The price could rise to £60m depending on success and appearances over several seasons.
During his time at Chelsea, Mount made 195 appearances, scoring an impressive 33 goals, and providing 37 assists for the London club.

Mount suffered a hamstring problem against Tottenham Hotspur on August 19, and United lost the game 2-0. It was a severe blow given how Mount has become a regular feature in Erik ten Hag’s XI.
The report suggests that there is an outside chance that Mount could be back in the match against Brighton and Hove Albion. They will play the Premier League game at Old Trafford on September 16.
The 24-year-old is aiming to be ready for the showdown between the Red Devils and the German giant, Munich. The away match at Allianz Arena will be the toughest Champions League group fixture for United.
It is best if we rest Mount against the Seagulls and keep him fit for the game against the German giants. With Sofyan Amrabat now in the team, there is enough depth in midfield to see out games without Mount too.

The Red Devils are currently in 11th position in the Premier League table as they have struggled for consistency. Manchester United has suffered two losses this season, one against Arsenal and another against Spurs, out of the four matches they’ve played.
The English international struggled to make an impact at United before sustaining an injury. The Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag opted to play Mount in a deeper role contrary to the attacking role he played at Chelsea.
