Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane eagerly waiting for the high-octane Champions League clash against Manchester United
Leroy Sane is eagerly waiting for the upcoming UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash against his former rivals, Manchester United, on September 20th at the Allianz Arena.
The Red Devils were drawn against the Bavarian giants, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray in the pot two of the UCL.
Sane is familiar with United’s style of play since the winger used to play for Manchester City for four years before moving to Bayern in 2020.
Having suffered a loss against City last season, he would be motivated to leave a strong mark when facing their cross-town rivals this month.
The German star talked about Bayern’s first match in the 2023-24 Champions League season in an interview with kicker (as quoted by the Manchester Evening News). He said:
“It’s a very nice opening fixture. I’m looking forward to it, especially because I played for the local rivals. That can be a chance to see where we stand at the moment in Europe. Manchester United has a very strong team. We want to show that we not only want to advance, but also win the group.”
Indeed, Sane spent several years playing for United’s city rivals, Man City, where he experienced numerous victories against United.
However, since joining Munich, he hasn’t had the opportunity to defeat the Red Devils. The Bundesliga Champions last faced the Old Trafford outfit in the 2013-14 UCL season, where they prevailed by a 4-2 aggregate score.
Bayern’s aim would be to secure the top spot in the group, making the upcoming match against United an important one. However, their visitors are tough nuts to crack.
Although Erik ten Hag‘s side is struggling with mixed results in the Premier League this season, they are looking forward to making a mark in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Bayern have also formed a strong team this season, and with the arrival of Harry Kane, they are more threatening in their attacking moves. The Red Devils have also signed their own star striker, Rasmus Hojlund.
