Manchester United pushing to sell Donny van de Beek to Turkish clubs before the deadline day

According to the Sun, Manchester United are trying to offload midfielder Donny van de Beek, with the club making efforts to transfer him to a Turkish club before the closure of their transfer window on September 15.

The 26-year-old Dutch star was linked with several clubs. Real Sociedad were said to be close to signing him at one point, but they eventually lost interest.

It’s said that the player’s attitude towards joining Lorient was a contributing factor in him missing out on the opportunity to move to the French club before the deadline day last Friday.

There were rumours of potential interest from the Saudi Pro League, but the transfer window for that division closed on Thursday.

As a result, even his fellow teammate Jadon Sancho is set to stay at United, even though there were late rumours of their possible departures.

The Red Devils still have hope of transferring Van de Beek to a Turkish club, as their transfer window deadline extends until September 15.

Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are considered the top contenders for his move, but it’s not guaranteed to happen, especially since the latter recently secured a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele.

United have already had two dealings with Fenerbahce this summer. Brazilian midfielder Fred transferred to the Turkish club, while goalkeeper Altay Bayindir moved to Old Trafford.

Van de Beek was sidelined for the second half of the previous season due to a serious knee injury, but he has since returned during the team’s preparations for the 2023-24 campaign.

The 26-year-old player hasn’t been part of United’s matchday squads this season. Notably, he was also absent from the United squad selected for the Champions League group stage.

The Dutch star still has two years remaining on his contract at the club, with the possibility of extending it by another year. However, it appears that he no longer has a future at the club.

Since his arrival from Ajax in September 2020, the former Ajax maestro has struggled to make an impact for the English champions, contributing only two goals and two assists in 60 appearances across all competitions.

The midfielder is in need of a new beginning, and a departure from United would benefit everyone involved.

The Red Devils would need to recover a decent portion of their initial investment in him. This summer, they brought in Mason Mount to add more creativity and goal-scoring abilities to their squad.

Van de Beek‘s situation at Old Trafford has worsened following the summer signings, and he would need to put an end to his challenging time with the club.

At his age, he needs consistent playing time to reach his full potential. It will be interesting to see if his career can regain momentum with a transfer this summer.

Undoubtedly, he possesses the technical skills required to become an elite player. Clubs in Turkey could offer him an opportunity to leave in the coming days, but the outcome remains uncertain.

Man United should aim to minimise their losses on the player and finally move forward.
