Manchester United to ease Anthony Martial back following his hamstring injury
As per Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will ease striker Anthony Martial back into team training following a hamstring injury.
The Frenchman suffered a torn hamstring before the FA Cup final against Manchester City just before the end of last season.
Martial hasn’t yet trained with the first-team squad. He said he is getting better when asked about the recovery from the injury after United’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in a pre-season game.
With half of the pre-season almost done and now knowing that the striker will only be eased back into training, it seems like he won’t be fit to start the season.
We would even be surprised if the 27-year-old plays any game in August. After a long lay-off, it is important for him to train well and have an extended solo pre-season even when the main games start.
His inconsistency of availability and performance has meant that United are busy in the market to sign a number nine.
They are in talks to get Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta but it won’t be easy because of the financial restrictions the club is working under this summer.
While it is good to see that Martial would be back in training soon, this isn’t ground-breaking news for the fans.
The Frenchman has had plenty of false dawns at Old Trafford. Even when he is back 100%, he should maximum be a rotation player in the squad.

He has shown nothing to warrant Erik ten Hag starting him for all the key games during the season. It would also not be surprising if the club are looking for a potential buyer in this summer window for him. Moreover, doing the latter won’t be a bad idea as well.
