Manager Steve Cooper’s side signed versatile winger Anthony Elanga in a £15 million move
As revealed by the club’s official website, Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga on a five-year contract this summer.
The 21-year-old star becomes the second summer signing for manager Steve Cooper, following Ola Aina’s free transfer last week.
Elanga had lost favour under the management of Erik ten Hag at Man United. It was increasingly likely that he would be ready to accept a move to another club in search of regular game time.
And now, Forest have successfully beat competition from Everton to secure his services in a £15 million deal. Elanga would be enticed by the opportunity to play under Cooper.
The Swedish star has decided to pursue a brave move after spending nine years at Old Trafford. During his time at the club, he made 55 appearances in various competitions, including the Premier League, Champions League, and Europa League, gaining valuable experience.
He contributed four goals and four assists for the Red Devils. However, now he is moving on to a new chapter in his career.
Elanga is a versatile winger capable of playing on either flank, and his signing would provide some relief for Forest if Brennan Johnson leaves the club during this transfer window.
Forest rejected a £30m inquiry from Brentford in June for Johnson, and they are holding out for approximately £50m for the talented homegrown winger.
If Forest does sell Johnson, any transfer fee received would be considered pure profit under the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Meanwhile, Elanga‘s departure from Man United signifies the end of a significant phase for the young player, who made his first-team debut in 2020.
Joining Forest presents him with a fresh opportunity to start anew and showcase his abilities on a different platform.
As the former Academy graduate embarks on this exciting chapter in his career, fans will be eager to witness his potential and impact at his new club.
His journey serves as a poignant reminder of the ever-changing nature of football careers, where adaptability and progress play crucial roles.
