Manchester United are still locked in talks with Steve Cooper’s side over the Dean Henderson transfer

According to Paul Taylor of the Athletic (h/t the Manchester Evening News), Nottingham Forest are hopeful of finding a solution for Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson’s future.

Forest are locked in negotiations with the Red Devils and are waiting to find a solution for this deal. They are also close to signing Anthony Elanga for a cut-price deal in the coming days.

Henderson is no stranger to the Premier League. The 26-year-old spent the previous season on loan at the City Ground.

However, his time on the field was limited to only 20 appearances in all competitions due to a thigh injury he suffered in January.

After the loan spell, the player returned to Man United’s Carrington training complex before the upcoming season.

Nevertheless, it is unlikely that he will be a regular player in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI after Andre Onana’s recent arrival.

Last year, the English goalkeeper strongly criticised the Red Devils for their unfair treatment of him during a specific season when he was promised regular playing time ahead of David de Gea but only made three appearances for the first team.

Even though De Gea has left the club on a free transfer, the goalkeeper does not envision his future with United and aims to find a permanent move elsewhere in order to secure regular opportunities to play as the first-choice goalkeeper.

United are keen on receiving a transfer fee for Henderson to help improve their Financial Fair Play (FFP) situation. Nevertheless, Nottingham Forest are currently pursuing a loan deal for the player.

Although talks about a permanent transfer have occurred, it remains an option only if an agreement for a loan cannot be reached.

Hence, the discussions involve both permanent and loan options. United are seeking approximately £20 million for the sale of Henderson, aiming to recoup a portion of the £43 million they spent on Onana.

United are also said to be nearing a deal to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as their second-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season, indicating that they are aware of Henderson’s wishes.

It appears that the time has come for the English shot-stopper and United to go their separate ways, and if a move to Forest doesn’t materialise, the Red Devils would not hesitate to accept offers from another club.

If the transfers of Elanga and Henderson go through, the club will generate a decent profit. It will be a win-win situation for both clubs. Steve Cooper’s side will also be getting their hands on two United players.
