Man United starlets Rhys Bennett and Daniel Gore put pen to paper on a new deal

As stated by the club’s official website, Manchester United have officially revealed that Academy duo Rhys Bennett and Daniel Gore have agreed to extend their contracts with the club.

During the pre-season, both players showcased their talents and caught the attention of the coaching staff.

Notably, Gore was selected to be part of the 31-man first-team squad that travelled to New York, indicating his promising progress. Unfortunately, Bennett could not join the team in the USA due to an injury.

Bennett had previously captained United’s FA Cup-winning youth team in 2022, scoring a goal in the final against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Gore displayed a solid performance in the recent 1-0 victory against Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium.

The decision to offer Bennett a new contract comes in light of comments made by manager Erik ten Hag, who stated that the club might require up to five centre-backs for the upcoming season.

This situation arises due to the potential departure of Harry Maguire, leaving United with potentially only three senior options in central defence.

Meanwhile, Gore made a significant impact in the recent victory against Lyon, playing a crucial role in Donny van de Beek’s winning goal by providing the assist.

He received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the midfielder was assigned a new number, 44, and he was also honoured with the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season.

Although he didn’t feature in the win against Arsenal on Saturday night, the youngster is still highly regarded by Ten Hag.

The Dutch boss has expressed his commitment to providing opportunities for young players in the first team during the preseason. It would be a smart move to let them leave on loan and help them develop their skills by playing regularly for another team.

EFL clubs are constantly eager to secure young Premier League talent on loan, providing them with a chance to demonstrate their abilities.

United have experienced positive outcomes from loaning players such as Alvaro Fernandez, James Garner, Hannibal Mejbri, and Amad Diallo to Championship clubs over the past two seasons.

Additionally, Savage also reaped benefits from his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers in League One last season.

Considering the situation, Gore and Bennett could greatly benefit from a loan move, similar to other players from Man United who have thrived on loan spells.

Whether it be in the Championship or the third tier, such a move would allow them to gain valuable experience and enhance their development. Youth football can only provide limited growth for a player, and hence, it requires more exposure.

A loan opportunity would enable both youngsters to play regularly in a competitive setting, aiding in their further progress.

The youngster’s performances have certainly given the Red Devils a lot to ponder regarding their potential loan move. A day to celebrate for the Academy duo.
