Manchester United star Anthony Martial will miss the friendly against Leeds United as he still has not recovered from his hamstring injury, according to the Metro.

The French national picked up the knock in the Red Devils’ final game of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign against Fulham. Subsequently, he missed the FA Cup final against Manchester City as we lost 2-1.

While the 27-year-old has returned to training, unfortunately, he still has not recovered fully. The striker’s fitness issue was severe and he is expected not to be fully fit for around three more weeks.

As a result, Martial was excluded from the travelling squad to Norway. Man United are set to face Leeds in the first pre-season match in Oslo before the start of the new term.

Apart from the French national, Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson will also stay in Manchester. The Holland international and the shot-stopper are recovering from their respective injuries as well.

Martial’s absence is not an encouraging sign. The 27-year-old had similar problems in the previous campaign and spent the majority of Erik ten Hag’s first year in charge on the sidelines.

We had to sign Wout Weghorst on loan in January from Burnley. However, as things stand, we do not have an established natural number nine in our ranks apart from the French national.

Hopefully, we will get to see some youngsters feature and take their chances in the coming weeks. It will also be interesting to see how Mason Mount gets on. The England international recently signed for us from Chelsea.

After Leeds, the Red Devils will take on the likes of Arsenal, Wrexham and Real Madrid this month. Will Martial be able to get some minutes under his belt? Only time will tell.
