Manchester United enquire about Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth as Mason Mount transfer saga rumbles on
According to ESPN (h/t Metro), Manchester United have made an enquiry about Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth as a potential alternative to Mason Mount.
A couple of days ago, Chelsea rejected a third bid from United for Mount. The Red Devils have become frustrated by the stubbornness of the West London club and are willing to walk away from the deal if possible.
It was revealed that United boss Erik ten Hag fancied signing the England international because he was impressed by his athleticism and technical quality.
But, if that deal does not become a possibility, the club must move on to alternate targets before it gets too late in the summer transfer window.
That is probably the reason why they have made contact with Utrecht midfielder Booth. The USA international was a Bayern Munich youth player before joining the Dutch side last summer.
In his first season there, the 22-year-old made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting four (Transfermarkt). He is a central midfielder who can operate as a number 10 or as a winger on either side.
Hence, profile-wise, Booth is similar to Mount. The former is good at creating chances, likes to get stuck in tackles, is good at crossing and takes risks with his passing to open the opposition’s defences up.
So, although playing in a Dutch league is a different breed compared to the Premier League, Booth has played one good season there and has the attributes to do what ten Hag would have wanted from Mount.
