Chelsea have rejected an opening bid from Manchester United to sign Mason Mount

As per a report from Sky Sports, Chelsea immediately rejected a £40m opening bid from Manchester United to sign England international Mason Mount.

The report reveals that United privately know how much they want to pay to sign Mount. But, there is a massive gap in price valuations.

The Red Devils are prepared to walk away from the deal if things don’t as per their wish. Hence, they are in the market for different players.

The other question is – how long can Chelsea play poker regarding Mount’s transfer, knowing his contract at Stamford Bridge expires next year? One would think not for very long.

Will United come back with another bid or play the waiting game and force Chelsea to lower the asking price? That might be a sensible solution if they have other targets in mind. The transfer window has only started and there is a long way to go.

Apart from strengthening the attacking midfield department by potentially signing Mount, the Red Devils have to be in the market for a striker and a defender. They are in talks with Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund while Randal Kolo Muani is considered as well. The race to sign Harry Kane is a lost one.

Coming back to Mount, a lot can happen in the coming days and it is our duty to keep an eye on every development.

The situation at Chelsea isn’t rosy that they can keep rejecting offers for a player who may leave for free next summer. But it’s perhaps not the wisest strategy to accept the first bid that comes your way either.
