Manchester United could spring on ‘affordable’ La Liga defender this summer
As reported by The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are currently keeping tabs on €12m-rated La Liga defender, Reinildo Mandava. The 30-year-old has been doing a stellar job for Atletico Madrid but his soon-to-expire contract could prompt the club to sell him this summer.
Reinildo has made 15 appearances for the Spanish side this season recording one goal and one assist. While Mandava might not have a lot of skill on the ball he more than makes up for it with his high defensive IQ.
His positioning is stellar and Manchester United would greatly benefit from adding the La Liga defender to their lineup. Transfermarkt rates the player at just €12m so signing the 30-year-old shouldn’t be too difficult.
However, there are some concerns over Reinildo’s ability to stay fit during the entirety of a season. The 30-year-old has missed 20 games due to injuries this season and this number could go up with the increased intensity of the Premier League.
Man United have already suffered a lot due to injuries and adding another injury-prone player to the lineup will surely not make things better for the Old Trafford squad. However, if Reinildo can stay fit the risk would be well worth it for United.
The team desperately needs some reinforcements at Left-back since Luke Shaw can’t be counted on to stay fit. So, signing Mandava will at least help the team take care of one deficiency in their defence.
