Manchester City join Manchester United in race for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister
Premier League rivals Manchester City have joined Manchester United in the race for Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister, according to the Express.
The Red Devils are eyeing a young central midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Argentina international has been one of the names linked with a move to the Old Trafford side.
However, now, the Sky Blues are also looking to acquire the 24-year-old’s services ahead of next summer. Another club from the English top flight, Liverpool, have also identified the World Cup winner as their top target.
Mac Allister signed for Brighton in January 2019. After spending some time out on loan, the midfielder returned to the Seagulls and continued his development. It was only in the previous campaign that the Argentine established himself as a regular at the Amex Stadium side.
However, under Roberto De Zerbi, the 24-year-old has been impressive. He was also pivotal to Lionel Scaloni’s plans in Qatar as La Albiceleste lifted the World Cup title.
City have the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Kalvin Phillips and Bernardo Silva in their ranks. However, there is speculation surrounding Ilkay Gundogan’s future. Thus, Pep Guardiola could be forced into the transfer market.
As for United, Erik ten Hag has relied on Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the midfield pivot this season. The two have been key to the gaffer’s plans at the Old Trafford side.
Unfortunately, in their absence, the Red Devils do not look their best. Fred and Scott McTominay have been inconsistent at the Manchester-based club over the years.
