Manchester United target and Brighton & Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister wants guaranteed Champions League football, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News].

The Argentina international is being linked with a move away from the Seagulls ahead of the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Red Devils are one of the teams interested in acquiring his services.

Erik ten Hag wants to bolster the Old Trafford side’s engine room next summer. The Dutch manager is eyeing the addition of a ball-playing number eight as one of his priorities in the coming months.

Brighton have had a brilliant season under Roberto De Zerbi so far. They currently sit in sixth place. However, getting a place in the top four with a few games left looks like a challenging task.

As a result, Mac Allister could opt to leave the Amex Stadium side for UCL football next season. That will be a big boost for United, who are fourth in the table for now.

The Red Devils are a point ahead of Liverpool, who are fifth, and have a game in hand over them. The Merseysiders are also eyeing the World Cup-winning Argentine. However, it remains to be seen whether he will move to the Anfield side if they fail to make it into the top four.

United bolstered the engine room with the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. However, we still seemingly lack quality in depth in the middle of the park.

In the absence of the Brazilian and Denmark international, Ten Hag has not had a lot of options to turn towards. Fred and Scott McTominay have been inconsistent in their displays this season. On the other hand, Marcel Sabitzer is on loan at the Old Trafford side.
