Manchester United are ‘considering’ a move for Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel ahead of next summer, according to the Independent.

The Red Devils are looking to acquire the Switzerland international’s services in the upcoming transfer window. However, it will evidently not be an easy task for the Old Trafford side.

Premier League rivals Chelsea also have the goalkeeper on their radar. On the other hand, the Bundesliga giants are aware of the interest in the 25-year-old and want to extend his contract, which currently runs until June 2026.

Dortmund signed Kobel in the summer of 2021 from VfB Stuttgart. Since then, the Swiss national has been the number one at the Bundesliga giants.

In the current campaign, the 25-year-old has showcased his talent at the Signal Iduna Park side. As things stand, BVB are challenging Bayern Munich for the title for the first time in years.

At United, David de Gea is the first choice in between the sticks. The Spaniard has been relied upon by Erik ten Hag in the current campaign. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

To that end, the Red Devils are in talks with the 32-year-old over tying him down to a new deal. But still, the gaffer wants to add another quality shot-stopper to the ranks to challenge the veteran goalkeeper.

On the bench, Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are the two the Dutch manager can call upon for now to replace De Gea. The two English nationals are evidently not good enough to start week in, week out for the Old Trafford side.

Therefore, it is wise to add a quality shot-stopper like Kobel to our ranks. Hopefully, it will give De Gea motivation to get better and will give Ten Hag another option to count on.
