Chelsea ‘confident’ of beating Manchester United to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen
Premier League rivals Chelsea are ‘confident’ of beating Manchester United to the signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Blues have made the Nigeria international their top target ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Officials at the Stamford Bridge side are likely preparing a club-record bid for the 24-year-old.
At the moment, the West London club are nowhere near securing Champions League football for next season. However, that has not deterred them from acquiring the forward’s services.
Chelsea have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis in the current campaign. Even with the massive investment the new owners have made to the Blues’ front line over the last two transfer windows, they seemingly cannot score enough goals.
After parting ways with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, the Stamford Bridge side have turned to a familiar face in Frank Lampard. However, the West London club’s legendary midfielder has been unable to get the best out of the likes of Kai Havertz and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
Osimhen has taken his game to the next level this season. The Nigerian has been pivotal to Napoli’s success, who are on course to win the Serie A title after over three decades.
The 24-year-old has been a key player for Luciano Spalletti’s team. They missed his presence as they took on AC Milan in the Champions League and lost 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals.
United are one of the teams interested in Osimhen. It is not a surprise considering that we have relied on Marcus Rashford to shoulder the burden of our attack in the current campaign.
