Manchester City and Manchester United interested in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni
Premier League rivals Manchester City, along with Manchester United, are interested in the possible signing of Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News).
At the moment, the Italy international’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. As a result, the Serie A giants could make the 24-year-old available in the upcoming transfer window.
The Sky Blues have an abundance of talent in the backline. They already had the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte. Last summer, Pep Guardiola’s team also added Manuel Akanji to their ranks.
City are challenging for the English top-flight title with table-toppers Arsenal as things stand. The Cityzens have used various systems and partnerships at the back in the current campaign.
As for United, Erik ten Hag has preferred the duo of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane since arriving in Manchester. The two World Cup winners have been solid for the Red Devils this season.
Unfortunately, both of them picked up injuries against Sevilla in our previous fixture in the Europa League. Thankfully, the Dutch manager has two experienced centre-backs in Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at his disposal as well.
In previous campaigns, our skipper and the Swedish national were some of the first names on the team sheet. Therefore, the two have played alongside each other a lot over the years and are excellent options to have as backups.
But it would not be a surprise if either of them decided to leave the Old Trafford side next summer. In that case, we will evidently need to bolster our defensive ranks.

Bastoni has been one of the best centre-backs in Serie A in the last few seasons. The 24-year-old is still young and has the potential to become even better. But it remains to be seen whether United will battle City for the Italian’s signature.
