Brentford shot-stopper and Manchester United target David Raya keen to join ‘top club’
Manchester United target David Raya, who plays for Premier League rivals Brentford, is keen on making a move to a ‘top club’, according to the Metro.
The Spain international’s current contract at the West London club is set to expire at the end of next season. Up until now, the goalkeeper has rejected two new offers from the Bees and does not want to put pen to paper on new terms.
As a result, Thomas Frank’s team are resigned to losing the 27-year-old in the coming months. However, the Gtech Community Stadium side will look to cash in on him next summer.
To that end, Brentford are looking to get around £40 million for Raya. Apart from the Red Devils, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the shot-stopper.
At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at the Old Trafford side. The Spaniard has been the Manchester-based club’s first choice in between the sticks for over a decade now.
However, his current contract with United will conclude in the summer. The Red Devils are yet to come to an agreement with the 32-year-old over extending his stay in Manchester.
Apart from the former Atletico Madrid star, the Old Trafford side have Tom Heaton and Jack Butland in their goalkeeping ranks. With all due respect, the two English nationals are not talented enough to play week in, week out for us.
Raya has seen a meteoric rise in his stock over the years. The Spain international signed for Brentford in the summer of 2019 from Blackburn Rovers. Since then, he has helped the Bees gain promotion to the English top flight and survive the drop.
