Tottenham Hotspur target and Brentford shot-stopper David Raya is still on the radar of Manchester United for now, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Manchester Evening News].

As things stand, Spurs are leading the race to acquire the Spain international’s services. However, the North London side are not willing to meet the Bees’ demand for a £40 million fee.

As a result, a deal between the Lilywites and the West London club is not expected to be agreed imminently. To that end, the Old Trafford side could make a move later in the ongoing transfer window amidst Tottenham’s hesitation.

Raya has been one of the best goalkeepers in the English top flight over the last two seasons. Brentford signed the 27-year-old in the summer of 2019 from Blackburn Rovers.

Having helped the Bees to attain promotion to the Premier League, the Spaniard has also been pivotal in their bid to survive the top in the previous two years.

Spurs have relied on Hugo Lloris in between the sticks for some time now. However, at 36, it seems like the 2018 World Cup winner’s time at the North London side is coming to an end. Therefore, they seemingly need to find a new number one.

United have also had the same shot-stopper as the first choice for over a decade now. David de Gea was trusted by Erik ten Hag last season. However, the Spaniard left a lot to be desired at times.

The former Atletico Madrid star has been error-prone for some years now at the Old Trafford side. But with Tom Heaton and Jack Butland at the gaffer’s disposal, the 32-year-old was seemingly our best bet.

But now, De Gea’s contract is set to expire in the coming weeks. Therefore, will the Red Devils extend the veteran goalkeeper’s stay or sign in someone like Raya instead? Only time will tell.
