Paul Scholes delighted with Anthony Martial return after Manchester United vs Everton
Manchester United icon Paul Scholes is delighted that Anthony Martial has returned to action after his goalscoring cameo against Everton.
The Red Devils took on Sean Dyche’s team away from home on Saturday (8 April) in the Premier League. In the end, the Old Trafford side came out on top with a 2-0 victory, with the French national scoring the Manchester-based club’s second.
Speaking on BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Scholes, who spent his entire playing career at United, is happy to see the 27-year-old coming back from injury. However, the ex-Red Devil has questions regarding the striker’s fitness.
“Look, it’s great to have [Martial] back. We all know the quality he’s got, it’s just can he get through it now? Can he get through until the end of the season? He hasn’t got a great record fitness-wise but we all know how good of a player he is.”
Martial has missed most of the campaign through various injuries. After picking up a knock during pre-season, the French national missed the start of Erik ten Hag’s reign in Manchester.
Subsequently, the 27-year-old has come back and had setbacks on several occasions. As a result, the gaffer has not been able to rely on the forward up front consistently.
However, when the former AS Monaco star has featured under the former Ajax head coach, he has managed to make an impact. And the striker did exactly that after being substituted at the hour mark against Everton.
In the 70th minute, Martial was set up by Marcus Rashford to double our lead and seal the three points. The former Monaco star has now found the back of the net seven times in 17 appearances in all competitions.

Unfortunately, a few moments later, the England international had to be substituted with an apparent injury. As a result, now, the French national’s fitness is evidently paramount. With our only threat in front of goal possibly on the sidelines, the 27-year-old will have a pivotal role to play in the coming months.
