Erik ten Hag believes Bruno Fernandes “best player” in Manchester United vs Real Betis

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Bruno Fernandes was the “best player” on the pitch for the Red Devils against Real Betis.

The Old Trafford side welcomed Manuel Pellegrini’s team on Thursday (9 March). After the drubbing versus Liverpool, a reaction was needed and the Manchester-based club got a 4-1 win at home in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16.

After a forgetful performance at Anfield, the gaffer opted to start the same XI that suffered a thrashing at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s team. The Portuguese, who was disappointing in the historic loss to the Merseysiders, got back to his in the victory over the Verdiblancos.

Marcus Rashford gave United the lead early on in the first half. However, Ayoze Perez found the back of the net at around the half-hour mark as the two teams went into the break level.

However, the Old Trafford side looked much better in the second half. Our captain was at his best and provided the assist for Antony’s goal and subsequently scored the Manchester-based club’s third.

Speaking after the triumph over Betis via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag hailed Fernandes’ display. The gaffer also played the 28-year-old in the number 10 role rather than out wide, which he has done in recent matches.

“I think he was the best player on the pitch. It shows his personality, he played a little deeper role tonight, I asked him to do, and I think he was brilliant.”

In the 82nd minute, United got a deserving fourth goal through Wout Weghorst after dominating most of the proceedings after the break.

The Portuguese bounced back in fine fashion against Pellegrini’s team after coming in for criticism for his display versus Liverpool. While the playmaker can seem a bit petulant sometimes, he has the quality to change games.
