Manchester United in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Alejandro Garnacho over new and improved contract
Manchester United are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with youngster Alejandro Garnacho over a new and improved contract, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required).
The Red Devils are close to agreeing on terms with the Argentine national to extend his stay at the club. As of now, the Old Trafford side are optimistic about securing the long-term future of the 18-year-old.
However, United are cautious about how much they want to pay Garnacho after his promising displays in recent months. The club want to avoid repeating what they did with Adnan Janujaz.
The Belgium international was rewarded with a pay rise and a five-year deal after less than two months with the Red Devils in 2013. However, the 27-year-old failed to live up to expectations at the Old Trafford side.
Janujaz was subsequently sold to Real Sociedad in the summer of 2017. Currently, the Belgian is at Sevilla, struggling to get enough game time in Spain.
As a result, United and Erik ten Hag are wary about not giving the Argentine youngster ‘too much too soon’. The 18-year-old’s recent form has been beneficial for the Red Devils.
In the current campaign, Garnacho has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Old Trafford side. The forward has found the back of the net twice and has provided five
assists. One of his goals came at Craven Cottage against Fulham in stoppage time as we won 2-1. Recently, in the Manchester derby, the Argentine national set up Marcus Rashford to complete the comeback against Manchester City.
