Wout Weghorst ‘confident’ of securing Manchester United move amidst talks over Besiktas loan termination
Burnley star Wout Weghorst, on loan at Besiktas, is ‘confident’ about securing a move to Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Clarets do not have the option to recall the Holland international. Therefore, at the moment, negotiations are ongoing to terminate the 30-year-old’s stay at the Turkish outfit. An agreement between the forward and the Red Devils for a temporary move is believed to be close.
Erik ten Hag is keen on adding him as a short-term option to the Manchester-based club’s squad in January. The former Wolfsburg star does not want to miss the opportunity either, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Dutch manager admires Weghorst’s qualities in terms of his strength and aerial abilities. In the current campaign, the 30-year-old has also been decent in front of the goal, finding the back of the net nine times in 18 appearances in all competitions for Besiktas.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure has dwindled Ten Hag’s options in the attack. The gaffer now has just one natural striker in the team—Anthony Martial.
Unfortunately, the France international has had issues with injuries in the current campaign. In recent fixtures, the Dutch manager has often opted to substitute the 27-year-old.
Marcus Rashford has been deployed up front on several occasions this season. While the 25-year-old has done well, we miss his qualities on the left wing when the England international plays as a number nine.
Weghorst joined Burnley in the winter window of 2022 as they were fighting for survival in the Premier League. But the Clarets were unable to survive the drop. The Holland international was underwhelming for the Turf Moor side.

However, the 30-year-old is a quality target man. If Ten Hag wants him, then the club should back the gaffer. It is also an encouraging sign that the striker is keen on the switch. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side can get a deal over the line for him.
