Manchester United target Vincent Aboubakar released by Al-Nassr for Cristiano Ronaldo reason

Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United by mutual consent in November and found Al-Nassr as his new club earlier this month.

The Saudi Arabian club gave him a giant reception at the Mrsool Park with a packed audience. Their fans would have hoped to see Ronaldo playing a role in Al-Nassr’s league clash against Al Ta’ee, which they won 2-0 with two goals from Anderson Talisca.

The clash, held on 6 January, saw Cristiano Ronaldo sitting in the stands before heading to the exercise room for the second half. Vincent Aboubakar, who was the club’s star signing in the summer of 2021 from Besiktas, was absent from the matchday squad.

Now, Al-Riyadh (h/t Express) claim that the 30-year-old striker has been released by the Middle Eastern club in order to make room for the former Manchester United superstar.

What are Man United doing?

Aboubakar, who has played with FC Porto and FC Lorient in the past, has been linked to Manchester United during recent weeks. Now, if he is actually released, then it would be pleasant news for the Red Devils.

They can sign the Cameroon international, who scored two goals and provided an assist in three 2022 FIFA World Cup group-stage games in Qatar, on a free transfer. Otherwise, his contract is set to run until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).

This is a name that will fail to convince the majority of Man United fans. Manager Erik ten Hag recently made comments about the club making a number of average signings in recent years.

To sign Aboubakar, who is 30 and has been playing in Saudi Arabia, will be a surprise move after that. There would certainly be better prospects, who are actively playing at the very top level, that we can sign. Joao Felix or Dusan Vlahovic perhaps.

Aboubakar, as a short-term loan signing, could still be a passable signing but it shouldn’t be anything more than that. It is akin to the Odion Ighalo transfer we sealed a couple of years ago to solve our striker issues.

We are Manchester United and we must not compromise with regards to quality. If Ten Hag needs a striker up front, where he only has Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial right now, perhaps we can conjure up some funds and bring in a proven player who we can also hope to then sign permanently in the summer.

Due to the size of our club and the brand value it carries, many players in world football could be open to playing here. That doesn’t mean we sign just anyone.
