Barcelona midfielder and Manchester United summer target Frenkie de Jong open to Bayern Munich transfer
Manchester United summer 2022 target Frenkie de Jong is “tempted” by a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich from Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t The Sun).
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to the Red Devils and Chelsea in the Premier League. However, in the end, he ended up staying at the Camp Nou side.
But the Holland international was unhappy with the Blaugrana for trying to force him out of the club. The midfielder had lost his place in Xavi’s starting lineup at the start of the season but has become a key player in the last few months for the Catalan outfit.
However, there is still uncertainty around De Jong’s future at Barcelona. The Blaugrana are facing financial issues. As a result, the Bavarians are hoping to take advantage of the situation. They were interested in the 25-year-old in the recent transfer window as well.
The Holland international would not mind a move to Bayern. And the Bundesliga giants are “convinced” the Catalans may be forced to sell their star midfielder next summer.
De Jong signed for the La Liga outfit in the summer of 2019 from Ajax. Since then, the midfielder has turned into one of the best players in the world.
The 25-year-old showcased his talent at the 2022 World Cup as well. Louis van Gaal’s team made it to the quarter-finals only to lose to Argentina on penalties. The Barcelona star was a key player for the Netherlands in Qatar.
United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the recent transfer window to bolster the engine room. The duo have been impressive in their short time with the Red Devils.
