Bayern Munich set to offer Cameroon star Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting new deal amidst Manchester United interest
Cameroon international Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is set to be offered a new deal by Bayern Munich amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Bild (h/t Express).
Cristiano Ronaldo has parted ways with the Red Devils. In light of his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, the 37-year-old’s contract with the club has been terminated. And as per ESPN, the Bundesliga striker was the Old Trafford side’s target to replace the Portugal international.
However, the Bavarians are looking to extend the 33-year-old’s stay at the Allianz Arena. But fresh talks between the two parties will likely not occur until February.
Choupo-Moting joined Bayern in the summer of 2020 as a free agent after his stint with Paris Saint-Germain. Since then, the Cameroon star has been a bit-part player for the German champions.
However, in the current campaign, the 33-year-old has put in some mesmerising performances for the Bavarians. In 16 appearances for Julian Nagelsmann’s team in all competitions, the forward has found the back of the net 11 times and provided three assists.
Choupo-Moting started for Cameroon in their opening Group G fixture at the World Cup against Switzerland on Thursday (24 November). However, the African side lost 1-0 in their first game in Qatar.
United’s striker options have evidently dwindled with Ronaldo’s departure. While the 37-year-old was not as prominent under Erik ten Hag, he still offered an option for the Dutch manager to choose.
Anthony Martial has been on the sidelines for most of the season with various injuries. As a result, Marcus Rashford has been deployed up front. However, he is seemingly not a long-term option.
