Manchester United interest in Bayern Munich and Cameroon striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is ‘concrete’
Manchester United have ‘concrete’ interest in Bayern Munich star and Cameroon international Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 33-year-old’s current contract at the German outfit expires at the end of the campaign. As a result, the Bundesliga giants will have to sell the striker in the ongoing transfer window in order to cash in on him.
Choupo-Moting has had a vast career in various countries. After spending a number of years in Germany with the likes of Hamburg, FSV Mainz and Schalke 04, the Cameroon international made his way to Premier League with Stoke City.
However, after spending a year with the Potters, where they got relegated, the 33-year-old got a surprise move to Paris Saint-Germain. With the Ligue 1 outfit, the striker was mostly a bit-part player.
Choupo-Moting spent two years with the Parisians. He hardly got on the scoresheet for the Parc des Princes side. Subsequently, in the summer of 2020, the Cameroon star signed for Bayern.
At the German side, the 33-year-old did not catch a lot of people’s attention with his displays in the first two seasons. But the striker has been a revelation with the Bundesliga giants in the current campaign.
This term, Choupo-Moting has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians. He has found the back of the net 11 times and has provided three assists.
United are evidently in dire need of a new number nine after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit. Anthony Martial is the only natural striker in the squad. Erik ten Hag has also deployed Marcus Rashford up top on several occasions.

However, the Cameroon international is seemingly not the answer to the Red Devils’ issues. The 33-year-old’s age and past experience in the English top flight does not instil one with confidence.
