Giuseppe Marotta, the CEO of Inter Milan, has revealed that the Nerazzurri will meet with the agents of Milan Skriniar amidst links to Manchester United. The Serie A giants hope to agree to a new contract with the Slovakia international.

The 27-year-old’s existing deal expires in the summer of 2023 (Transfermarkt). However, the Serie A giants are looking to extend the centre-back’s stay in Milan.

Skriniar’s name has been associated with Paris Saint-Germain and United. However, speaking via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Marotta disclosed that Inter would hold talks with the defender this week.

The Slovak joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2017 from Sampdoria. And the 27-year-old immediately became a key member of the Serie A giants’ starting lineup.

He has been one of the best centre-backs in the Italian top flight since his move to Milan. Under Antonio Conte in the 2020/21 campaign, Skriniar helped his side win the Scudettoafter an 11-year drought.

In the current season, the centre-back has once again been pivotal for Simone Inzaghi. He is one of the captains of Inter. And the Slovak was key in the Nerazzuri’s progression to the Champions League round of 16.

United have a number of centre-backs in the squad currently. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have become the first-choice partnership in defence under Erik ten Hag.

However, the France international has had injury issues throughout his time in Manchester. And when Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof join the Argentine in the backline, we look shaky. In the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League, the Swede struggled while Martinez tried his best.

Thus, the addition of Skriniar would evidently strengthen the Red Devils’ squad. However, whether the defender pens a new deal with Inter remains to be seen.
